Ontario Energy Support Program - OESP

The OESP program helps lower-income households save on electricity by providing on-bill credit towards your Alectra, formerly Enersource, hydro bill. You must apply to the program to receive the credit. The amount will depend on how many people live in your house and the combined household income after tax.

You should apply if your calculation of after-tax income is close to the amounts shown below :

  • for a 1 person household, the household income is $28,000 or less
  • for a 2 person household, the household income is $39,000 or less.
  • for a 3 - 4 person household, the household income is $48,000 or less
  • for a household of five or more people, the household income is $52,000 or less

What is the difference between OESP and LEAP?

The OESP is intended to provide ongoing monthly bill payment support to low-income customers for electricity.

LEAP offers one-time support for customers who are temporarily unable to make ends meet due to emergency or illness. It can be used for natural gas or electricity bill.

In some circumstances, you may qualify for both OESP and LEAP programs.
